Though they breathed the same art, yet each of them is unique and inimitable. Only a few years later, summoned to Milan by the Reverberi brothers, the age-old friends who felt too lonely and had decided to play some real music, those young artists met Nanni Ricordi, an unrivalled talent scout in Italy, who would open the doors to success and fame for them. They went down in history as the<strong> \u201cGenoese school\u201d of Italian songwriting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/composizione-cant-widget-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/composizione-cant-widget-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1057\" style=\"width:1240px\" width=\"1240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/composizione-cant-widget-1.png 800w, https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/composizione-cant-widget-1-300x90.png 300w, https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/composizione-cant-widget-1-768x230.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><br>Their adventure started in that moment, after leaving Genoa, to which they would go back at different times. They embarked on artistic and human journeys which made our city renowned all over the world for producing talents.<br>To those who wonder why this happened in Genoa we can say that our city was the arrival point of &#8211; legally or not &#8211; imported American music, from jazz to swing, and French music with Brassens and Brel, who inspired De Andr\u00e9 and Paoli in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Giorgio Calabrese, a lyricist born in 1929, claimed: \u00ab<em>The Genoese school does not exist, nor has it ever existed. We were a group of friends put together by Natalino Otto, who was the leader, sort of, then the oldest members, that was me, Umberto Bindi and Franco Reverberi, Gino Paoli, Bruno Lauzi, Luigi Tenco, then Fabrizio De Andr\u00e9 who had been born in 1940 and was the youngest of all. We shared the same tastes, the same ways of seeing and listening to music. Because Genoa isn\u2019t a metropolis, it\u2019s actually quite tiny, it often happens that those who have the same aspirations \u201csmell\u201d each other like truffle dogs, as we used to say in the past&#8230;<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Today the \u201cGenoese school\u201d has a home which could not be situated in any other place than<a label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/visit-genoa\/fossatello-via-del-campo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\"><strong> via del Campo<\/strong><\/a>, the alley that provided the title for one of De Andr\u00e9\u2019s most famous songs. Called <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/genoa-culture\/fabrizio-de-andre-museum-via-del-campo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\"><strong>Viadelcampo29rosso<\/strong><\/a>, it is a store\/museum the entrance to which is free of charge. It exposes original LPs, photos, books, posters, old magazines, multimedia installation, curiosities and different objects that can be seen, among which<strong> the legendary Esteve \u201997, Fabrizio De Andr\u00e9\u2019s guitar<\/strong>, which was put up for auction by his family to raise funds for Emergency. It was obtained by a group called Via del Campo, which gathered an incredible number of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Genoa and its singer songwriters: places to visit <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Starting from <strong>via del Campo<\/strong> (an area where traditionally trade of goods was mixed with the \u201cbusiness\u201d &#8211; bordering on the illegal &#8211; of the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/genoa-curiosity\/brothels-genoa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">prostitutes described by De Andr\u00e9<\/a>), music and poetry fans willing to get to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/things-to-see-in-genoa\" target=\"_blank\" label=\"know Genoa, its history and traditions (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">know Genoa, its history and traditions<\/a><\/strong>, can take part in guided tours as \u201cfull immersion\u201d experiences in the <strong>city\u2019s historical centre<\/strong>, between reality and imagination. By reading the lyrics of De Andr\u00e9 and his contemporaries, one can discover the heart of Genoa, its most authentic traits which draw attention to the \u201cclosed\u201d personality of its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">One can move among the tangle of alleys where \u201cthe good Lord does not give His sunbeams\u201d, between Via del Campo and the modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/routes-video-tours-genoa\/city-center-piazza-de-ferrari\/\" target=\"_blank\" label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">piazza De Ferrari<\/a>, two opposite poles of the old city figuratively representing the Genoa of the working class and that of the upper class. In the small square in front of the museum a slate monument was placed in memory of Fabrizio in 2001, quoting the final lines of his song Via del Campo \u201c<strong>nothing is created from diamonds, flowers are created from manure&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Among perfumes and fragrances that you can smell as you walk around <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/genoa-history\/genoa-old-town-dock\/\" target=\"_blank\" label=\"Sottoripa (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Sottoripa<\/a><\/strong>, among historical groceries and fish and chips shops you can taste \u201c<strong>A Cimma<\/strong>\u201d (the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/what-to-eat-genoa\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"traditional dish (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">traditional dish<\/a> to which De Andr\u00e9 dedicated a song in the local dialect). You can also improve the knowledge of Genoese, a language which achieved this status thanks to Faber, who decided to write one of his best albums \u201c<strong>Creuza de ma<\/strong>\u201d in the local language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">If you walk past the Aquarium, where you can find \u201c<strong><a label=\"Via al Mare Fabrizio De Andr\u00e9 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/visit-genoa\/porto-antico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Via al Mare Fabrizio De Andr\u00e9<\/a><\/strong>\u201d, the path continues with sharp &#8211; even architectural &#8211; contrasts toward Piazza De Ferrari, and only a few steps from there toward Vico Carabaghe, an area famous for brothels: it seems that it was in one of these buildings that <strong>Gino Paoli<\/strong> found the inspiration to describe poetically the purple ceiling of &#8220;<strong>Il cielo in una stanza<\/strong>&#8220;. And for those who can continue the journey we recommend a <a label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/routes-video-tours-genoa\/boccadasse-corso-italia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">visit to Boccadasse<\/a>, an evocative seaside resort where time seems to have stopped and Paoli lived for a while in an attic overlooking the sea.
