Thanks to its particular territory squeezed between the mountains and the sea, Genoa offers activities in the midst of nature a few steps from the urban context and Righi is one of the most significant examples.

Starting from the center of Genoa, Righi and the Peralto park / Walls Park (Parco delle Mura) area can be reached on foot (go to route 7) or taking the Zecca – Righi funicular departing from Largo della Zecca (go to routes 1 and 2) or by bus from any area of the city (on foot also from Val Bisagno following, for example, the route 14 which ends in via Carso). The funicular goes up to the Montallegro area (the terrace of the station is one of the most famous viewpoints in Genoa, you can enjoy a splendid view of the city), an excellent starting point for trekking. From here, following via Mura delle Chiappe, you can start climbing in the Peralto park, walk past Forte Castellaccio with an open view over the Val Bisagno up to the Foce and the sea. At the level of Peralto’s parking area starts lot several paths, the most popular is the path called “Anello dei Forti di Genova” (Ring of Forts). The Ring starts and ends in via delle Baracche, but from the parking area it also possible walk up to reach the nearby Forte Sperone (490m) and from Sperone as far as Forte Begato (470m) following the “sentiero delle mura”. Go back to Forte Sperone and from here go up to Forte Puin (490m) in the Ring’s path as far as Forte Diamante (640m), the highest fort of the route in the Parco delle Mura (at the level of San Michele Mount you can also reach in a short time the nearby Forte Fratello Minore). These hiking paths cross open fields, windswept meadows and pastures, a truly unexpected context if you consider that we are not far from the city. Furthermore, from Forte Diamante it is possible to follow the connection with the village of Trensasco and the path that starts from the station of the same name on the famous Casella’s train. The excursion of the Ring lasts just over three hours (four hours the route that also touches the Begato fort).

But the Forts’ Ring is not the only path in the area. Between Forte Sperone and Forte Puin (or taking via delle Baracche from the parking area), you can enjoy the “sentiero delle farfalle” (butterflyes path) or, at the level of the parking area again, you can keep to the right and following the “sentiero dell’acquedotto” (aqueduct path) as far as San Gottardo and the church in Via delle Gavette in the heart of Val Bisagno. The aqueduct path, so called because in the downstream section it develops right on the route of the Roman aqueduct.

Another possibility in the Peralto park is the “percorso ginnico del Righi” (Righi gymnastics route) which crosses a relaxing wooded area, perfect if you want to speed up your pace and transform trekking in jogging.
