Acquasanta is the area of the <strong>old paper mills<\/strong>, which monopolised the European market between the 16th and 17th century. The paper for Europe\u2019s most important courts was produced here. In those times, the Republic of Genoa was forced to ban the emigration of \u2018paper workers\u2019 outside the Republic in order to protect the trademark. What made this product unique was the production of linen cloths and hemp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/anelli-carrozze-cavalli-acquasanta.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/anelli-carrozze-cavalli-acquasanta-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Anelli per carrozze e cavalli ad Acquasanta\" class=\"wp-image-84\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The bus number 101 (from the bus window the <strong>Mele hill<\/strong> unwinds sweetly, it is an ancient village which is worth a visit) ends at the foot of the huge <strong>Nostra Signora di Acquasanta Sanctuary<\/strong>, in the <strong>thermal area of Genoa<\/strong>. If you observe carefully, the Sanctuary\u2019s wall over the road still shows rusty buckles which were used to secure horses and coaches\u2026 Travelling back in time is not difficult, beyond what has been seen and experienced. The mind moves in the space that belongs to memories painted by fantasy and imagination. Behind the Sanctuary are circular terraces and the old vineyards scorched by the sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sanctuary is the starting point of lots of hiking trails that climbing up to the top of <strong>Mount Penello<\/strong> (995 m, about 2 hours\u2019 walk) and <strong>Punta Martin<\/strong> (1001 m). A few minutes from the sanctuary you will find the houses of Baiarda and its hiking path along Baiardetta river with small lakes and waterfalls. From Acquasanta you can reach on foot with the trails also <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/hiking-trekking-genoa\/pegli-val-varenna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Varenna Valley<\/a> in the Pegli area and the village of <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/en\/ligurian-riviera\/arenzano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Arenzano in the Beigua Park<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/guida-staging-2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/warning.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.guidadigenova.it\/guida-staging-2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/warning.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3564\" style=\"width:40px;height:40px\" width=\"40\" height=\"40\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This article is for information purposes only.
